New smart cards issued to correspond with new technology in updated parking meters

The 1,709 parking meters on

Charleston’s peninsula have been in the process of getting updated to accept credit cards, coins, and smart card payments.
To date, more than half of the meters have been updated with new technology.
Between the new and old meters, the new meters cannot accept the same smart cards as the old meters.
For this reason, beginning Monday, the Charleston Department of Traffic and Transportation is making new $15 smart cards available for purchase.
The smart cards can be purchased at the Revenue Collections office located at 180 Lockwood Drive or at the Visitor Center located at 375 Meeting Street.
