province including Tsengel Soum, Ulaanhus Soum, Sagsai Soum and Altai Soum.  The Tavan Bogd (Five Saints) chain includes the highest peak in Mongolia, Khuiten Uul (4,353 m), which overlooks the frontiers with China and Russia. This National Park includes very high peaks, with eternal snow and glaciers in the far west of Mongolia. A stunning landscape of high glaciated snow capped mountains, alpine and sup-alpine forests, large lakes, rivers and streams, mountain grasslands, barren rocky mountain ranges and semi-arid desert type valleys.

Altai Tavan Bogd and Tsambagarav Mountains are the highest peaks of the West Altai mountain chain.  Altai Tavan Bogd became a protected site in 1996. Since the range is close to China and Russia, a special border permit is needed, which can be obtained in Ulgii or Ulaanbaatar. In the park region there would be snow until end of May. Rainy season is from mid of July to mid of August. Average temperature in Summer: Day: 16-25°C, Night: 7-13°C.
